The Jane Segar Longenecker Award was established by Dr. Herbert E. Longenecker, President of Tulane University from 1960–1975, to honor his wife and annually to recognize a member of TUWA who has made sustained contributions to TUWA and Tulane University as a whole. The recipient of the Longenecker Award is presented with a 14-karat gold pin bearing the letters “TU” custom made by Newcomb Alumna and world-renowned jewelry designer Mignon Faget. This award is endowed by the Higher Education Fund established by Dr. Longenecker in 1965 and changed to benefit TUWA in 1994 in recognition of the continuing importance of the organization to the university.
